Mohamed Jailam, more commonly known as Oggy, is a 21-year-old who began his football career in 2016 at the BG sports club trial. He moved to Male’ from his native, Adh. Hanyaameedhoo, after hearing about the trial. He currently plays as a forward at Club Green Streets.
While it is still early in his football career, Jailam has already achieved the milestone of winning the best player in the category of under 23, in 2018. Further, he was selected for the Maldives National football team in 2019, but due to an injury that he endured during the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League in 2020, Jailam has been out of action since.
During our interview, Jailam shared that two of his biggest dreams are to be the best footballer in Maldives as well as to play in an international league.
Jailam also expressed that the biggest challenges that footballers such as himself face, is problems with the delay in salary disbursement. He mentioned that the salary is not paid on time and sometimes, several days go by without it. Further, he also believes that, there isn’t enough attention paid on young and upcoming players, within the country on football.
Moreover, during our interview, Jailam was pleased to tell us that the best player in Maldives is Hamza Mohammed, who plays for the Maziya Sports and Recreation Club, as Jailam feels that Hamza is different from other players. His role model is his father, Adam Shareef who is 48-years-old and has always been a figure that Jailam has looked up to. He concluded the interview by further expressing that Jailam grew up watching his father play football and has always thought of him being incredibly talented.
