Ilyas Ibrahim (Ille) has been appointed as the Maldives National Basketball Team's head coach. President of the Maldives Basketball Association (MBA) Ahmed Adam stated that Maldives National Basketball is preparing for the SABA Men's Basketball Championship with Ilyas as the team's head coach. The SABA Men's Basketball Championship is set to begin in Bangladesh on October 21, 2021.

Former Maldives National Basketball Team captain Mohamed Zilaal (Zilaa), former basketball star Ali Fazly, and Mohamed Naseer are the Maldives National Basketball Team's assistant coaches. MBA President Ahmed Adam stated that youth coaches have been appointed because they are the future of basketball in the Maldives, and he completely trusts the new coaches to develop the Maldives BasketBall.

Before playing basketball, Ille was a member of the Maldives national football team. He was the number forward in the Maldives national team's match against South Korea in 2004, and in 2005 he played a key role in New Radiant's to qualify to the AFC Cup semifinal.

Ille has stated that coaching the Maldives national basketball team is a significant achievement and that his coaching responsibilities have increased as a result. Ille has coached Trex Sports Club and has had a lot of success with them.

While he has been named Head Coach of the Maldives national team, Asia's largest basketball competition will begin in two months. He stated that his goal is to prepare for this tournament and do well in the tournament.
