The Maldives National Football Team preliminary squad for the upcoming SAFF Championship in the Maldives has been announced.
The Maldives Football Association (FAM) announced a preliminary team of 31 players on Monday. While there are some experienced players on the squad, there are also some players who did not participate in the World Cup or the Asian Cup.
As a result, Yasfaadh Habeeb, Hassan Raif, and Ismail Easa, who missed out on World Cup and Asian Cup qualifying because they tested positive for Covid-19 have been included in the squad. In addition, Naaiz Hassan has been selected, who has been unable to participate in World Cup and Asian Cup qualifying due to personal reasons.
Assad Ali, the State Minister of the Ministry of Sports, has also been selected to the squad. He announced his retirement from the Maldives National Football Team in 2018. Assad joined Club Eagles this year after a major injury and has featured in AFC playoff matches as well as few DDPL matches.
While the Maldives National Football Team's preliminary squad for the SAFF Championship has been revealed, the team will conduct a training camp in the United Arab Emirates before the Championship.
