The schedule for the SAFF Championship, which will be held in the Maldives in October this year, has changed.
According to the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), the schedule has been revised to conform to FIFA guidelines and provide appropriate rest days for all teams. Therefore, the SAFF Championship matches will begin on October 1st and end on October 16th. As a result of the adjustments, each country will get three days off in between two matches.
Even the schedule has been changed. On October 1, 2021, the Maldives will meet Nepal. The following is the updated Maldives match schedule:
- Nepal vs Maldives on 1 October 2021 at 4 pm.
- Maldives vs Bangladesh on 7 October 2021 at 9 pm.
- Maldives vs Sri Lanka on 10 October 2021 at 4 pm.
- India vs Maldives on 13 October 2021 at 9 pm.
Maldives has selected a preliminary squad in preparation for the SAFF Championship. Ali Ashfaq, Mohamed Arif, and Assad Ali are among the players in the squad, which also includes several experienced players. The preliminary squad is a total of 31 players.
The SAFF Championship will be held in a league this year due to the smaller number of teams. The countries that participated were the Maldives, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Due to the level of Covid – 19 in the country, Bhutan has chosen out of playing and Pakistan has been suspended by FIFA.
