Maldives has selected their athletes for the World Swimming Championships, which will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) starting in December. From the 16th to the 21st of December, the championship will be hosted in Abu Dhabi, the UAE's capital.
The athletes selected from Maldives include, Aishath Saushan, Hamna Ahmed, Mohamed Aan Hussain, and Im’aan Ali. These athletes were chosen based on the results of the trials held to select participants for the world championships, according to the Swimming Association. These swimmers have previously represented the Maldives in national swimming competitions. Saushan is the group's most talented member. She has been competing at a national level for several years.
Hamna was part of the national team who competed in the South Asian Games held in Nepal in 2019. Hamna is one of the female swimmers who is rapidly improving. Im'aan was also awarded a swimming scholarship and has been taking lessons in Russia. Furthermore, Aan is also one of the athletes who has a bright future. Aan had participated in the last Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) as well.
After the covid 19 outbreak, Maldives swimmers have an opportunity to compete in an international tournament. Maldives was represented by 2 swimmers, Aishath Saajina and Mubaal Azzaam Ibrahim, in the Olympics held in Tokyo last August.
