The trials to select players for the national volleyball squad attracted more than 70 participants. Within this, 30 players were chosen.
On Monday night, the players and their parents signed the players code of conduct at a ceremony conducted at the Youth Center to distribute the jerseys. Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) stated that the players code of conduct is how the player should aim to strive in their volleyball life and that until the players are able to join the senior team, this is what they should follow to prepare as volleyball players.
Sayyid Ali, an individual who has provided many services to Maldives volley spoke at the ceremony. He stated that the under 23 squad will have players who can join the senior team one day. And that they should all work their best to claim their place in the senior team.
VAM president, Mohamed Raneysh (Raney) spoke at the ceremony as well. He has stated that all the players in the under 23 squad will have the chance to play at a higher level. However, the most important thing is the work and effort they put into it. Also, that these activities are being done to help improve volleyball in the Maldives, and that he appreciates the families' support for the events.
The team has been assigned their coaches as well. The talented and experienced Fathuhullah Waheed (Fallo) will be acting as the head coach and the assistant coach will be one of the most talented players in the Maldives, Ahmed Abdulkareem (Loangey). Raney has said that these two coaches are role models for the players, and they will not require any further introductions in the volleyball world. Furthermore, two players from the under 23 squad will have a chance to play in the senior squad starting from this year, as part of a decision taken earlier to give the youngsters more experience.
The under 23 squad will be participating in several competitions in the upcoming year. Which includes the Asian Youth Games to be held in China and Islamic Solidarity Games to be held in Turkey in August.
