Following an invitation from well-known businessman Mohamed Moosa (Uhchu), the Maldives national team played in a friendly football match against Kurehdhoo Island Resort for a prize of 1.2 million rufiyaa. Maldives team won the match with a score of 7-1.
Ashfag (Dhagandey), Asadhullah Abdullah (Asako), Mohamed Umair and Ali Faasir (Sentey) scored for Maldives in the match to give them an easy win. The only goal scored by Kurehdhoo was scored by their captain Guraish Abdul Razzaq at the 23rd minute. Guraish is a football player who has won the FAM Youth Championship with Maaziya's youth team, as well as playing for their senior club. He has also played for the youth team for Maldives national team.
In addition to Uhchu, State Trading Organization (STO), Dhiraagu, LITUS, Sun Front, and Villa Travels contributed prizes for the match as well. The motorcycle contributed by LITUS was awarded to the best player of the match, Ali Ashfaq. Kurehdhoo captain Guraish received a battery motorcycle, while Kurehdhoo team coach Mohamed Abdul Ghanii received a battery bicycle. Sun Front was the provider of both automobiles.
This was the most expensive match played in the Maldives to this date. The best six clubs in the Maldives Dhivehi Premier League are awarded 1 million rufiyaa, while the winning cash reward for the season's opening Charity Shield match is 1 lakh rufiyaa.
Prior to this match, Maldives national team has also played a friendly match against H.Dh Kulhudhuffushi in the occasion of opening the Zigzag Stadium on youth day. Maldives team will be competing in the tournament, ‘Prime Minister Mahindha Rajapaksa Trophy’ which is slated to begin next November in Sri Lanka. In addition to Maldives and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Seychelles will be competing in the tournament. Training has begun with the assistance of the newly appointed coach for the Maldives team, Francesco Moriero, the former Italian midfielder.
