5 Maldivian players will be participating in the Bahrain International Series that is starting tomorrow. The competition is set to be held in Bahrain's capital city Manama and it will go on for 4 days from tomorrow onwards.
The players representing Maldives National team are the national champion, Fathmath Nabaaha, her twin sister Aminath Nabeeha who has participated in multiple previous international championships, and the young talent Nibal Ahmed. Revival Sports Club participating under Maldives' name will be represented by the most recent champion Ahmed Thoif Mohamed and one of the previous champions Zayan Zaki.
These athletes have departed for Bahrain yesterday. This is the first time after 2019 that multiple badminton players are traveling to compete internationally. Since the Covid 19 pandemic, there was only one instance where a Maldivian player has gone abroad for the past 1 and a half years. This was when Nabaaha traveled to Tokyo to participate in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
This tournament in Bahrain is a Badminton World Federation (BWF) accredited competition. This means that the performance of the players during this tournament will influence their ranking points.
Lately, Maldivian players have won several international medals. The Maldives National Team and Revival Club have earned multiple achievements such as winning a medal in a competition recognized by BWF.
