Five Maldivians have become the first athletes in the whole world to earn a German Ju-Jitsu yellow belt after passing the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation's grading exam.
This grading was done specifically for the Maldivian athletes after concluding the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation's annual event held in Abu Dhabi and the Ju-Jitsu World Championship. This was a huge accomplishment for the Maldivian athletes. This is the first time that Maldives has participated in the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation's annual event. Maldives was represented in this event by the President of the Ju-Jitsu Association of Maldives Hussain Zaahir and General Secretary Shaha Hassan.
The five Maldivians who achieved the yellow belt are Ali Zaahir, Ali Faris, Mohamed Shaan Hassan, Hassan Ali, and female athlete Shaha Hassan. All these athletes have also made huge accomplishments in the fitness industry. Along with this, they are practicing other Ju-Jitsu techniques as well.
The German Ju-Jitsu technique was originated by taking inspiration from the cultural martial arts since the 1960s such as Karate, Judo, etc. After the introduction of the German Ju-Jitsu Association, they were included as a founding member of the International Ju-Jitsu Federation as well. 70 countries all over the world have a German Ju-Jitsu Association.
Ju-Jitsu Association of Maldives was registered in the Maldives Youth Sports And Community Empowerment in 2019. In the same year, Maldives participated in the South Asian Championship held in India's Chennai and won 7 silver and 4 bronze medals.
Ju-Jitsu activities are back in action this year after a huge break due to Covid 19.
