Club HDC has defeated last year’s champions United BML 0-3 in the first match of one of the biggest futsal tournaments in Maldives, the ‘Club Maldives Cup’.
The tournament was started last night at Rehendhi Futsal Stadium. Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof had was also there to commemorate this event. Along with this FAM’s General Secretary Hussain Javaz (Java) and other ministries and company officials were there to enjoy this event.
HDC had played amazingly last night against BML who had won the Club Maldives Cup two times. In the first half, a lot of the attacks against goal by HDC had been saved by BML’s captain and goalkeeper Mohamed Shafeeu (Cech). However, in the second half, HDC’s Yameen Mohamed was able to send the ball into the back of the net.
BML’s Ibrahim Hamdhaan and Ishaan Ibrahim (Sattu) both had gotten good opportunities to score for BML. Hamdhaan’s volley was saved by HDC’s keeper Fayyaz Fayaaz (Faitte) and Sattu’s attempt went barely wide of the goal. HDC’s last 2 goals were scored by the man of the match Shaappe.
The other teams in this group are RDC and Fen Club. RDC is one of the teams that most prepared for this tournament.
The second match played last night was Club Immigration against Dhiraagu. This match ended with a 0-0 draw. Immigration’s goalkeeper Hassan Tholaal (Topluck) had saved a lot of attacks from Dhiraagu. His performance had earned him the man of the match as well.
8 teams have participated in the Club Maldives Cup’s Women Division (Women’s Futsal Fiesta) this year. The first match in the women’s division was played by last year’s champion MPL and Fenaka. This match was won 0-5 by MPL. The second women’s match was played by Sifainge Club and Police Club. Sifainge Club had won this match by 1-3 goals.
The annual Club Maldives Cup had been canceled last year due to Covid 19. This year also, the cup was not able to start at the date which was originally scheduled. Nevertheless, the cup is now underway.
