The Cricket Board of Maldives (CBM) has decided that the T20 Cricket League which will be played by the Maldives’ clubs will start this Saturday.
There will be a total of 8 teams participating in this tournament. This tournament’s drawing ceremony was held Sunday evening at cricket board’s Jaleel’s Lounge. The cricket board’s vice president Ahmed Hussain and the association’s senior officials have all attended this event.
The 8 teams taking part in this competition are Male’ Sports Club, Milan Cricket Club, Offu FC, Comets Cricket Club, Aizy Sports, New Star, Club Viyansa and, Male’ Veterans Club.
Each team will face off against each team once in the first stage of the tournament, which is the premier league. After that, the club that is ranked first place will be the premier league champion. After that, the 4 top-ranked teams will play in the last stage of the tournament.
The last stage will be played as two semi-systems. The first-ranked team will play against the fourth-ranked team in the first semi and the second-ranked team will play against the third-ranked team. The winners of the semis will play in the final and the winner will be crowned as the T20 Champions.
The teams that were ranked 5th to 8th will also play three matches in the second stage of the tournament. The cricket board mentioned that this was planned in order to help the teams to improve their ACC points.
The cricket board has also stated that they will financially help each team that participates by giving them each 3000/-. The first match of the tournament will be played this Saturday. Aizy Sports will play against New Star in the morning. The second match will be played by Male’ Sports Club and Comets Cricket Club. All the matches of the tournament are set to be played on the weekends.
