Club Maldives Cup: Ooredoo and Police close to advancing to the second round

Ooredoo Maldives and Police Club have moved closer to the second stage after winning last night’s matches in the Club Maldives Cup.

 

The matches were played last night at Rehendhi Futsal Stadiums. Ooredoo had beaten Medianet 2-1 in their match and Police Club defeated Trade Club 4-2 after coming from behind. Just like Ooredoo and Police Club, HDC has also won in straight 2 matches.

 

Both the goals of Ooredoo were scored by Hussain Athif. He scored his second goal after making use of a mistake made by Trade Club’s goalkeeper Mohamed Rasheed in the second half. The only goal for Medianet was scored by their national under 23 team player Moosa Azeem Hassan.

 

Ooredoo had defeated Customs in their first match. After last night’s win, Ooredoo is at the top of Group A with 6 points in 2 matches. Medianet is in second place with 3 points from 2 matches. Third place MACL and fourth place Customs weren’t able to get any points from 1 match.

 

Even though Police defeated Allied easily in their first match, last night’s match against Trade Club was rather difficult for them. The first 2 goals in this match were scored by Trade Club. Trade Club got a 2-goal lead with Saifaan Ahmed Manik and Jumail Jaleel’s goals. Police Club who plays under coach Hassan Hameedh’s (Dakey) instructions had scored four goals later to win the game.

 

The first 2 goals of Police Club were scored by their captain Ali Rishwaan Ahmed (Rishey). The other 2 goals were scored by substitute Mohamed Shifan.

 

After winning their first 2 matches, Police Club is at the top of Group B with 6 points. Second place Trade Club got 3 points from 2 matches. Third place Hulhumale Hospital and fourth place Allied have not gotten a point from 1 match.

 

Stelco who lost against WAMCO in their first match had defeated City Council 2-1 last night. City Council had won against Youth Ministry in their first match. STELCO who plays under former national team’s captain Assadh Abdul Ghanee’s instructions goals were scored by Ismail Naseem and Ahmed Jailam (Jai). City Council’s only goal was scored by their under 23 national team’s midfielder Hussain Ahusaam Moosa (Thihthey).

 

In Group C, WAMCO, City Council, and STELCO have all earned 3 points while Youth Ministry has no points. Youth Ministry and WAMCO have only played one match yet.

 

MTCC who lost against STO 0-1 in their first match had won against Maldives Gas 3-0 last night. STO’s goals were scored by Ali Nafiu (Kalhey), Hussain Ali (Achey), and Hassan Mifrah.

 

In Group H, MTCC, STO, and Maldives Gas has 3 points while MMA has still not earned a point. STO and MMA have only played one match so far.

 

The next matches of the tournament will be played on Monday night.
