14 Maldivian youngsters have gained the opportunity to train in America through Stars Basketball Academy.
This academy partnered with ‘Coaches Team International’ representing world basketball hub America’s California for the camp. They held a basketball camp earlier this month and they handpicked youngsters that they would like to send to America for more training.
The camp by Stars Academy and Coaches Team International was held from 15-20 November for players between 6-16 years.
A total of 156 players from Male’ City area are in this camp. Talented Coaches Team International's coaches came from abroad to set up this camp. Stars Academy’s Head Coach Hussain Zameel (Zambe) mentioned that the coaches who came from America prepared training data for everyone.
“After looking at the data, CTI’s (Coaches Team International) coaches will pick the 14 players who will go to America.”
He also mentioned that they are planning to hold more such training programs in the coming years with the help of CTI.
Stars Academy has also partnered with another American company that uses technology in training to go for a camp in September. Zambe says, “Using that technology, we can determine for example, the percentage of how high we throw a ball during a hook shot. The training will be done in front of a screen. Along with shooting, the technology can be used for ball handling and dribbling as well. Training with this technology will help to improve each player’s specific skills.”
Zambe also mentioned that during the camp, the players will get the chance to watch some NBA (National Basketball Association) matches and also some College Basketball tournaments.
