Redwings BC has been crowned as the champions of the first-ever Weekend Basketball League after defeating Stingers in the final.

The final was played in the Maafannu Stadium’s Outdoor Basketball Court. Redwings won the final after coming from the back defeating Stingers by a 25-point difference. Redwings got 66 points while Stingers were able to get only 41 points.

This is the first trophy that Redwings have won on the Maldives Basket’s top level. This achievement is a huge confidence boost for the team full of young and promising players.

A total of 8 teams had participated in the Weekend Basketball League. They played against each other, and the top 4 teams were promoted to Weekend League Cup and the bottom 4 teams played in the Weekend League Shield. The winners of the Weekend League Shield are T-Rex Sports Academy.

The Weekend League first began as friendlies between the teams. Due to Covid, there were no basketball competitions held in Maldives for a long time. The teams decided to cooperate and decided to hold the first-ever Weekend League. The tournament began back in September and matches were played on the weekends.

There are multiple basketball competitions set to be held in the coming few months. On December 16, the Fithron 3 on 3 Championship will begin. There were three 3 on 3 tournaments held earlier in October as well. They were hosted by Vipers, Stingers, and MBA.

In next year February, the MBA Championship and National Basketball League will start as well. The top 4 teams of the National Basketball League will play in the National Basketball Championship.
