Beach Fight Championship 2021: First Ever Beach Fight held in Maldives

Ángel Sánchez, fighter, and master of Brazilian jiujitsu partnered with AZ BJJ Maldives Academy and other martial arts academies have held Maldives’ first ever Beach Fight Championship in Maldives. The Championship was held on the 10th of December evening at Hulhumale beach behind Redbull Volley Court.


This event was open to the whole public. Anyone who had an interest in Martial Arts and Wrestling or anything similar could register and participate in the event. The purpose of the event was to offer a starting foundation for anyone interested in participating in such events or going forward in these sports. Hence, there were certain rules and regulations for this event, no advanced lock or anything of the sort was allowed in the tournament. All participants had to do was drop their opponent onto the ground.


Multiple people from different nationalities and ages participated in the event. The tournament was divided into 5 different categories. Female category, 55kg, 60kg, 70kg, and 75kg. From the female category, Fathimath Ibrahim came out on top receiving first place. Fathmath Nasha was the runner-up of this category and Mariyam Mishka got third place. The 55kg category was won by Mohamed Arshad. Abdulla Saain Sobah came on second and Mohamed Roodh got third place. Hussain Salman had won the gold medal in the 60kg category. Hussain Makhdhoom Ibrahim won silver while Hussain Haisam Ibrahim got bronze. From the senior categories, 70kg was won by Kinane. Ahmed Shah came on second and Mohamed Shinaz came third. The last category, 75kg was won by Ibrahim Najah. He came out on top after a competitive match against Ashham Abdulla. The third place in this category was won by Abdulla Saaid.


Ángel Sánchez hosts a similar event every time he visits Maldives, and the competitions are getting more and more attention from the public over time. This is exactly the purpose of holding the events. To gain a bigger audience and make Martial Arts a recognized sport in Maldives. It is the wish of Ángel Sánchez and all the Martial Arts Academies in Maldives that athletes from Maldives participate in an international event and bring a good name for their country.
