The first two quarterfinal matches of the Club Maldives Cup set to be played last night have been delayed for tonight.
The matches scheduled in the quarterfinals yesterday were Prison Club against MACL and Club HDC against Fuel Supply Maldives (FSM). An official of the Club Maldives Cup had mentioned that these 2 matches have been postponed for tonight due to the bad weather yesterday. The 2 matches previously set to be played today have been postponed for tomorrow night. MPL will play against RRC and STO will play against FENAKA tomorrow.
Last Club Maldives’ champions United BML was knocked out of the group stages this time. The latest runner-ups Club WAMCO were knocked out of the second round of the tournament even though they had a strong squad. They were knocked out by FSM after a splendid performance from them. FSM will have to play against one of the tournament's favorites HDC. HDC had easily won all their matches in the tournament.
MACL who traveled to the quarters after winning a penalty shootout against MTCC will have to play against Prison Club tonight. Prison Club who has been playing well in the tournament under Coach Mohamed Shaheen (Potey)’s instructions only lost against strong FENAKA in the group stage. MACL lost their first match in the tournament against Medianet, but they went on a 3-match winning streak since then.
The match between consistent MPL and RRC will be a sight to see. Both the teams had scored a bunch of goals in the second round of the tournament. RRC is managed under experienced futsal coach Abdullah Naseer (Abo). MPL is coached by Ahmed Mohamed (Ammadey).
The match between STO and FENAKA might be the biggest match of the quarterfinals. Both the teams have won all the matches they played so far, but only one team can move forward to the semifinals. Both the teams are managed by well-known futsal coaches. STO’s coach is Ahmed Vishaal (Andhu) who had previously played in the Club Maldives Cup for MPL. FENAKA’s coach is Ahmed Nisam (Photo).
The semifinals of the 18/30 Futsal Fiesta will be played on Tuesday night. Dhivehi Sifainge Club will face WAMCO in the semifinal and the last Futsal Fiesta’s champions MPL will have to play against Police Club.
