18/30 Futsal Fiesta: Club MPL wins the cup 3 times in a row

19 December 2021

MPL won last night’s final match against WAMCO with Fathmath Joozan’s 5 goals and is crowned the champions of the 18/30 Futsal Fiesta. With this, MPL has won the Club Maldives Cup Women’s Division 3 times in a row.

Club Maldives Women’s Division first began in 2010. Club Immigration and Dhivehi Sifainge Club (DSC) had previously tried to win the cup 3 times in a row. From this, Club Immigration won the cup 2 times in a row but they were unable to do it the third time.

MPL won the Club Maldives Cup 3 times in a row in 2019, 2019, and 2021. The CMC wasn’t held last year due to Covid-19.

MPL had played against WAMCO twice in this tournament’s group stage. They won one match and drew one. But tonight’s final was much more competitive than the previous matches.

WAMCO took the lead first in last night’s final. This goal was scored by WAMCO’s Thailand player Darika from a freekick. In the starting stages of the second half, Darika scored her second goal and increased their lead.

But MPL didn’t lose hope. They took their play up a notch and turned around the score. MPL’s first goal was scored by the queen-of-the-match Joozan. Just a minute after this, MPL’s captain Fathmath Saliya won the ball in her half and went on to score MPL’s second goal equalizing. Three minutes after this goal was scored, Aminath Shaamila scored a goal from a narrow-angle and MPL took the lead for the first time in the match.

WAMCO was also not backing out of the match yet. Darika scored another goal completing her hattrick and equalizing for WAMCO. WAMCO made some substitutions after this goal. However, MPL’s Joozan went on to score another 2 goals for MPL completing her hattrick.

WAMCO’s substitute Mariyam Noora scored a goal bringing back some hope for WAMCO. But then, we score goals from MPL. The last 2 goals of MPL were scored by Joozan who was exceptional in this match.

The best player (Queen of Futsal) of this tournament was MPL’s Saliya. The top scorer of the tournament was DSC’s Bangladesh player Sabina Khatun with 21 goals. The fair-play player was DSC’s Matsushima Sumaya and the fair-play team trophy was won by Trade Club. The best coach award was won by WAMCO’s Ahmed Niyaz (Niya).

The top 5 players of the tournament were, MPL’s Madina, Saliya, and goalkeeper Azam as well as WAMCO’s Darika and Kasayi.

The final of the Club Maldives Cup Men’s Division will be played tonight. Road Recreation Club (RRC) will play against Fuel Supply Limited (FSM) in the final.
