Maldives National Volleyball team was unable to depart to Bangladesh to participate in the Central Zone Championship as there are Covid-19 direct contacts within the team.
The team was informed of this news while they were at the airport trying to depart to Bangladesh. The Central Zone Volleyball Championship will go on from today until the 29th.
Even though the men’s team was unable to go, the National Women’s team has traveled to Bangladesh. They will participate in the Central Zone Women’s Division.
Maldives National Volleyball Team had prepared well for the Central Zone Championship that is being held after 2 years. They played 3 friendly matches against Sri Lanka’s National Team here in Maldives. Even though they were unable to win any of these matches, the team coach Mohamed Saajiidh (Kaattey) mentioned that these matches gave the team a good warm up for the tournament.
VAM first tried to go to India for a training camp before the tournament begins. However, this was cancelled as an Indian Volleyball team from Bangalore had visited Maldives and it was arranged to play friendly matches against them. Maldives won all 3 matches played against Hyderabad Spikers.
