Hulhumale' Synthetric Stadium to be used while Galolhu Stadium is being renovated

4 January 2022

Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof has mentioned that the Hulhumale’ Synthetic Track Stadium will be used for football activities while the National Galolhu Stadium is undergoing renovation this year.

A 55 million MVR budget taken from India as a loan has been set to be used for the maintenance of Galolhu Stadium.

The budget allocated for this year’s renovation is MVR 45,495,505 while in 2023, 10 million MVR will be used. This project is done under the loan given to Maldives by Indian Exim Bank.

Minister Mahloof stated on Rajje TV’s ‘Kulhivaru File’ program last night that the current idea is to completely take down Galolhu Stadium.

“The playing will be done in Hulhumale’ Stadium until Galolhu Stadium is finished. Galolhu Stadium has to be completely taken down. This will be done using the $40 million that I mentioned. From this, around $25 million will go into Galolhu Stadium. Adding the other works add up to a total of $40 million,” said the Minister.

The exact date that the renovation will start has not been announced yet.
