The National Basketball Season has been forced to be delayed due to the Social Indoor Hall being needed to use for National Volleyball and Table Tennis teams international matches.
This year’s basketball season was first set to commence at the start of next month. The season was supposed to go on from February 1-16 as the MBA Cup.
The basketball season had to be delayed due to the friendly matches that are supposed to be played between National Volleyball Team and Bangladesh Volleyball team from February 6-12 and since the Indoor Hall must be given to the Table Tennis Association from March 11-20 for the South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship matches.
Before the year began, the Indoor Hall was given to the Basketball Association for the following 2 months. But since the National Volleyball friendly matches were set to be played in Male’, MBA was forced to delay the start of the season.
The Maldives Basketball Association (MBA)’s President Mohamed Adam mentioned to ‘Adhadhu’ that since the MBA cup was a tournament that always opens up a lot of opportunities for young players, they had tried since the last moment to carry on the season after bringing changes to the schedule. But since there was no other choice, they had decided not to hold the season in the coming month.
“Up to the last moment, we had tried to make adjustments to the schedule and hold the tournament. But between the volleyball matches and the TT tournament, we don’t get enough days to hold the tournament, that’s why we decided to cancel the tournament.”
