Mohamed Shuaau has won a gold medal in the Indian Ocean chess blitz tournament organized by World Web Chess.
Due to ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, this chess tournament was conducted in an online platform called Lichess. Under Blitz Chess, each player has 3 minutes plus 2 additional seconds per move, starting from move 1.
Another medal was scored by Noor Farooq who received the silver medal in the tournament. From Maldives, 10 players from national chess team participated and total 60 chess players from different Indian Ocean countries participated the tournament.
The countries which participated in this tournament are Maldives, India, Singapore, South Africa, Seychelles, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This is the second time a Maldivian has won a gold medal in chess. In November, 2020 the first gold medal for Maldives was won in South Asian Chess festival for cadets’ youth and disabled juniors organized by Asian Chess council.
