Football Association of Maldives (FAM) said that AFC cup, South Asian group match is trying to host in L. Gan zone stadium. This year due to Covid-19, AFC is trying to conduct the matches centralized.

Maldives won the bid to play South Asian group stage matches and, in the proposal, AFC has mentioned that to conduct last two matches at the same time, in two different stadiums.

An international tournament match has once been hosted in Hithadhoo zone stadium. However, this time FAM is trying to host AFC cup match in L. Gan. This will be the second time an international tournament match playing in Maldives other than in Male’.

FAM General Secretary, Hussain Javaaz has said that the last two matches are schedule to begin at the same time and FAM with the help of Youth Ministry is trying host the match in Gan stadium.

Gan zone stadium was opened last December by the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof mentioned in that event, that his target is to develop the Gan stadium as to play AFC cup matches.

AFC cup group stage matches is scheduled to be held from 14^th May 2021 to 20^th May 2021.

There are only three teams in AFC cup South Asian group right now. They are Maldives Champion Maziya S&RC, Bashundhara Kings from Bangladesh and ATK Mohun Bagan from India.

 The last team which will selected to the group stages will be the team who wins the qualifying round. In qualifying round Maldives Eagles Club, India Bangalore FC and Bangladesh Dhaka Abahani will be competing.

AFC cup South Asian qualifying matches will take place from April 7^th to April 21^st next month. Eagles Club will play their first match in 7^th April 2021.
