Novak Djokovic smoothly advanced to the quarter-finals of the US Open, bringing an end to the surprising journey of Croatian qualifier Borna Gojo with a straight-sets victory.
The second-seeded Djokovic, in pursuit of his 24th major title to equal a record, secured a 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 triumph in New York. Reflecting on his performance, the three-time US Open champion Djokovic said, "I executed well during the crucial moments, and I'm delighted to progress in three sets."
The 36-year-old Serbian will now face the ninth-seeded Taylor Fritz, one of three American men to reach the quarter-finals.
Fritz, aged 25, prevailed with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, 6-4 victory over Swiss qualifier Dominic Stricker, joining Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton in advancing on Sunday.
Tiafoe, aged 25, defeated Australia's Rinky Hijikata with a score of 6-4, 6-1, 6-4, setting up a quarter-final clash with Shelton, guaranteeing at least one American player in the semi-finals.
Shelton, a 20-year-old talent, overcame the 14th-seeded Tommy Paul with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. This achievement marked the first time since 2005 that three American men reached the quarter-finals at the US Open.
