Club Eagles head coach Mohamed Shaazly (Shaaz) has said that, there are targets for Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League (DDPL) and AFC cup, while the club are preparing for the next matches.
Due to HPA’s new set of guidelines to control the increasing number of Covid-19 in greater Male’ area, the DDPL was halted in February 3rd and the league was resume on last Friday, 26th March. After 7 weeks, Club Eagles played their first match and won against Super United Sports (SUS) in Friday evening.
After defeating SUS Club Eagles is set in fifth place in the league table and that was the first match Club Eagles played under Shaaz coaching. Before playing against Bhutan’s Thimphu City FC in AFC cup qualifying in April 7th, Club Eagles will play against Da Grande Sports Club in tomorrow evening.
Shaaz has said that, his target is to be in the top six in the league and to qualify for AFC cup group stage. He also mentioned that, the club will be ready after the next match for the AFC cup qualifying round.
To qualify for the AFC cup group stage, Club Eagles has to win 3 matches. In qualifying round Club Eagles will play first against Thimphu City and if they win against Thimphu City, Club Eagles has to play Bangladesh’s Dhaka Abahani in the second round.
If Club Eagles win against Dhaka Abahani and wants to qualify to the group stage, Club Eagles has to play a playoff match probably against India’s Bengaluru FC.
AFC cup South Asian Group Stage matches will be hosted in Maldives.
