Mohamed Ranesh has been elected as President of Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM).
FIVB and ACVE has virtually participated the election and Ranesh was elected as President with all clubs’ votes, which participated in the election.
Ilyas Ibrahim also competed for VAM President post with Ranesh. However, he has left the election center before the election started. Ilyas has raised concerns on the application of the Ranesh. Ilyas has said that, Ranesh applied the application form after the due time.
Ranesh was elected as VAM President with 6 votes while, Ilyas didn’t get any votes.
Ali Shareef was elected for Vice President of VAM with 6 votes and Mohamed Raamiz was elected as Secretary of VAM. For Rules Commission, Ahmed Adeel, Mohamed Shahid and Mohamed Hameed were elected. Mohamed Sajid, Shuaib Ahmed and Mohamed Saleem were elected for Technical and Development Committee. For Beach Volley Commission, Abdulla Nasheed, Ismail Samaha, Ismail Shareef, Hussain Shareef and Adnan Abdul Raheem were elected.
There are only 9 clubs that have the opportunity to vote in the election, including Dhivehi Sifainge Club, Police Club, Addu Sports Club, Sports Club Hawks, Goodies Sports Club, Maldivian Sports and Recreation, Youth New Generations, Club Half Linkage and Sports Club City.
To solve the problems of VAM, in 2019, Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof and Maldives Olympics Committee Secretary General Ahmed Marzooq had a meeting with FIVB and discussed the current situation. After the discussion, FIVB has made Ad-Hoc committee to solve the issues. However, due to Covid-19 situation, the process has been halted.
