The TT Association has said that the two international tournaments known as Commonwealth Youth TT Tournament and South Asian Junior and Cadet TT Championship which is going to be held this year are two very special tournaments for Maldives.
Given the opportunity to perform these tournaments in Maldives, the two tournaments are planned to be held in the month of August. The General Secretary of TT Association, Ismail Sujaau stated that participating in the Commonwealth Games was an opportunity given to carry out these tournaments in Maldives. Sujaau sad that, the South Asian Junior and Cadet TT Championship is a tournament that was previously held in Maldives, so it won’t be anything new. He also mentioned that, these tournaments being held in Maldives is going to gain a lot of pr and support. The Commonwealth Youth Tour TT Tournament is going to be completely new for the Maldivian players since its being held for the first time in Maldives.
There are 5 SAARC countries participating in commonwealth, more teams are going to be participating in the Commonwealth Youth Tour TT Tournament from out of this region. Sujaau has said that, there are total of 12 countries participating in this tournament.
Maldives Table Tennis Association has assigned Konstantinos Costopoulos as coach from Greece for senior and junior teams. Greece’s Konstantinos Costopoulos is very experienced coach, which have coached some European countries. Maldives women TT team has won 3 gold medals in the latest Indian Ocean Island Games.
