In the cricket carnival held by the cricket board on Ramadan, the story of the umpires are highlighted most from the stars and champions of the tournament. This touranament was held in three different locations of the Maldives. Cricket has been known as a man dominant sport, however, the participation of women in this made the tournament much more special.
This tournament was held in Male’, L. kunahandhoo and Fuvamulah City. This tournament was special as women were seen as officials.
On the tournament held in Fuvamulah city, Shara Ahmed Haleem Ibrahim was my referee on field decision maker. The extra umpire officials were Aishath Aima, Meesa and Aana.
Aima was also awarded the best female cricket player in 2019.
The first women’s cricket tournament in Maldives was held in 2018, umpires in this tournament were men. In Ramadhan cricket carnival 2019, inter office editions tape ball final batch had three female umpires which are Fathimath Kinaanath Ismail, Shamma and Mariyam Kinaanaa Ismail.
This years Ramadan carnival had all female umpires which is a historical mommet for the cricket family, as this is the first time, we are having an all women team as officials.
The cricket board has established a plan to increase the female umpires. The aim of this board is to train umpires for international matches.
