President of FAM, Bassaam Adeel Jaleel, mentioned that they might get a punishment by AFC due to postponing the AFC cup which was to be held this month here in Male’ City.
AFC decided to postpone the matches as the Bangalore Fc team which came to Maldives in order to play the playoff match breeching of protocols of the Health Protection Agency of Maldives. The Covid -19 cases has been increasing in a rapid speed which was also a reason for postponing the matches.
During “Kulhivaru File” program on Rajje Tv, Bassam said that decisions made by government in such a critical time should be considered by FAM. Bassam said this in accordance tweet by Minister Mahloof which said that not obeying the guidelines by HPA and the governments is something which cannot be accepted and that Bangalore Fc should Leave Maldives at its earliest.
Bassam said that there were concerns by AFC ad they might take disciplinary action against FAM in the coming days.
“The other thing is that where the group stage matches would be held next? What time would these be held? What punishment would we get? This is the reason why we are waiting till AFC makes a decision.”
He also that that he does not wish that we would be penalized from hosting international matches here I Maldives.
He also stated that due to AFC contingents have travelled here they could be bigger fine for us however as the whole world in in a critical condition due to the Covid -19 pandemic some leniency in fining them. However, AFC disciplinary committee will decide on what will happen in this case.
